Biography of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan

Hovik Abrahamyan was born on January 24, 1958i n the village of Mkhchian in Ararat marz.

He graduated from Yerevan Institute of the National Economy.

He served in the Soviet Army.

1990-1991 - Head of division at Burastan Brandy factory.

1991-1995 - Director at Artashat Wine-Brandy factory.

1995-1999 - a deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia of the first convocation.

1995-1996 – Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Artashat City Council.

1996-1998 – Mayor of Artashat.

1998-2000 – Governor of Ararat region of the Republic of Armenia.

2000-2001 - Minister of Coordinating the Activity of RA Territorial Management and Urban Development.

2001-2002 - Minister of RA Territorial Management.

2002-2005 – Minister of Coordinating the Activity of RA Territorial Management Substructures.

2005-2007 – Minister of RA Territorial Management with the functions of Coordinating Minister.

2007-2008 – RA Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of RA Territorial Management.

On April 21, 2008 he was appointed head of the RA President’s staff.

On August 24, 2008 he was elected a deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia of the fourth convocation.

On September 5, 2008 he was released from the post of the head of the RA President’s staff by the decree of the RA President.

On September 29, 2008 he was elected President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia of the fourth convocation.

Since 2005 he has been member of the RA National Security Council.

He is a member of the councils of Yerevan State University and Yerevan State University of Economics.

He is a member of the Executive Body and Board of the Republican Party of Armenia.

He was awarded Anania Shirakatsi medal, commemorative of RA Minister, Marshal Baghramian medal, and Fridjoff Nansen golden commemorative.

He is married, and he has three children.
