Zaruhi Batoyan: I attach importance to constant connection between political organizations and decision-makers

The RA's efforts to promote gender equality in the workplace have been more visible in recent years, but despite these efforts, gender discrimination manifestations continue to be recorded in labor relations: The deputy of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Zaruhi Batoyan said this during the public presentation of the research titled Manifestations of Gender Discrimination Against Women in Labor Relations in Armenia held on March 27.

The research was carried out by Women's Resource Center with the initiative and support of the Armenian office of the Solidarity Center.

The representatives of the Government, National Assembly, Employers’ Association, Trade Unions, international and local non-governmental organizations attended the meeting.

Zaruhi Batoyan mentioned in her opening speech. “Cooperation with the organizations dealing with women’s issues is very important for the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs, and this is the constant process from which we, the MPs, always try to gather information so that we can implement our policy based on needs. Economic empowerment of women, involvement in economic life and creation of equal opportunities is very important for the RA Government, so in terms of policies, we are moving in the same direction, it is just important to gather the information from the beneficiaries, from the sector, which will help us understand how to move in that direction and achieve our goals. In this sense, I highlight the permanent connection and consistent work of the political organizations and the decision-makers.”

Zaruhi Batoyan also reminded that the National Assembly amended the Labor Code in 2023, establishing the prohibition of sexual harassment, which is mainly aimed at protecting women in working relationships.

“But we still need new amendments and improvement of the legislation, and I hope that the organizations of the sector will have their expert support in this process,” the deputy underscored.
