New Proposals in the Armenian Water Legislation

On August 8 Mnatsakan Petrosyan, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health Care and Environment had a working meeting with Robert Cardinali, head of "The Programme of Structural and Legislative Reforms in the Water Sphere of Armenia,” Hayk Petrosyan, the responsible officer of legal affairs of the program and lawyer Natela Tadevosyan.

Robert Cardinali noted, that their primary purpose is to improve the Armenian water legislation. A whole package of proposals is already prepared and if the National Assembly agrees, it can be included in the amendments of the Armenian Water Code. Leading experts of the sphere have participated in the formation of the proposals, the experience of other countries has been studied, though, according to Hayk Petrosyan, the responsible officer of legal affairs of the programme, only a few countries’ experience is comparable to the Armenian water legislation.

Mnatsakan Petrosyan, Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Health Care and Environment noted that the water issue is of strategic significance, consequently the chain of liabilities and obligations in the system has to be defined, first of all, by law. Highly appreciating the work of "The Programme of Structural and Legislative Reforms in the Water Sphere of Armenia” Mr. Petrosyan informed that parliamentary hearings are anticipated in September, which will be an excellent opportunity to present the prepared package of amendments, as well as to hear the viewpoints and proposals of specialists of this sphere.
