On May 16, the RA NA Alen Simonyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus Kypros Giorgallis. The RA NA President highly appreciated the inter-state and multi-sector relations formed between Armenia and Cyprus during recent years. He expressed his gratitude to the colleagues of the House of Representatives of Cyprus for unanimously adopting the resolution on Continuous Aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenians and Current Situation in Nagorno Karabakh on April 6, 2023.

At the meeting the role of the committees on cooperation functioning in two parliaments was underscored, highlighting the visit of the delegation led by the Chair of the RA NA Armenia-Cyprus Inter-Parliamentary Committee Hayk Konjoryan to Cyprus a few days ago. The close and effective cooperation and mutual support between the delegations of the friendly countries within the framework of the parliamentary assembles of the international different organizations was highly valued. “An idea impressed me from my official visit paid to Cyprus, when my colleagues said that Cyprus is ready to assume the role of advocate for Armenia in the European Union,” Alen Simonyan noted, adding that Armenia is also ready to support Cyprus.

At the meeting reference was made to the decision of the Government to open a diplomatic representation of Armenia in Cyprus during the year 2023. In this context, the Speaker of Parliament expressed hope that on the principle of reciprocity Cyprus will also open a representation in Armenia.

At the end of the meeting the RA NA conveyed greetings to the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Annita Demetriou, expressing hope that he will host her in Armenia soon.
