1 / 2

Ratifying the Protocol our country our country will recognize the commitment of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to accept and discuss the reports on the violations of provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities being presented by the individuals or groups of individuals being under its competence. The observations of the Committee are not final and are not subject to complaint. The Committee will implement also monitoring in two ways – in the individual and investigative procedure: the RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan said.

According to the Deputy Minister, the Republic of Armenia ratifies the Protocol with the response text to Azerbaijan, accordingly: the Republic of Azerbaijan contains pointless and groundless accusations directed to the Republic of Armenia and distorts the essence of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, which was provoked and continues because of the use of force by Azerbaijan in response to the peaceful demands for the rights and self-determination of the people of the Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) Republic.”

It was also noted that the ratification will allow more strengthening the cooperation of Armenia with the UN Council of Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Contract Bodies, particularly the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities , more raising the international authority of the Republic of Armenia in the sphere of human rights.

Let us note that by the draft law on Ratifying the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities it is proposed to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted in New York in December 2006. The Convention was ratified by the Republic of Armenia in May 2010, entered into force on October 22, 2010 and the Protocol was signed by the Republic of Armenia on March 30, 2007.

The member of the NA Standing (Head) Committee on Labor and Social Affairs Mariam Poghosyan presented the endorsement of the Committee.
