NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan and Members of Armenia-Israel Friendship Group Meet with Delegation of Kneset

On April 25, the Vice President Hakob Arshakyan, the Head of the NA Armenia-Israel Friendship Group Tsovinar Vardanyan, members of the Group Babken Tunyan, Maria Karapetyan and Mikayel Tumasyan met with the delegation led by the Chair of the Israel-Armenia Friendship Group of the Knesset, the deputy of the Meretz Party Mossi Raz,

Touching upon the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the NA Vice President expressed hope that Israel would recognize the Genocide. “The Armenian and Jewish peoples, who survived the calamities of the genocide, have moral obligation to unite the efforts in this issue,” he said.

Mossi Raz noted that the Meretz Party had always been for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

The NA Vice President considered problematic Israel-Azerbaijan military-technical cooperation and especially not stopping the arms supplies to Azerbaijan during 44-day war days of 2020. The deputy of the Meretz Party Mossi Raz underlined that their party criticized the fact of supplying weapons to Azerbaijan by the Israeli side.

Hakob Arshakyan also spoke about the normalization process of the Armenian-Turkish relations.

Tsovinar Vardanyan expressed gratitude to the members of the Israel-Armenia Friendship Group of the Knesset for visiting Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex on the remembrance day of the innocent victims and the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.

Speaking about the enlivening of bilateral parliamentary ties, the Head of the Group assured that due to joint efforts the Armenian-Israeli inter-parliamentary relations would enter into a new phase. In this context the activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups have been highlighted: they are considered to be a unique bridge between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Tsovinar Vardanyan considered of priority the exchange of experience within the framework of the legislative initiatives regarding the different spheres.

The Chair of Israel-Armenia Friendship Group Mossi Raz noted that he planned his first visit just on April 24: that symbolic day is the honouring of the memory of 1,5 million killed.

The sides referred to the necessity of the exchange of experience in different fields and the activation of the relations between the Friendship Groups.
