It is Proposed to Expand List of Beneficiaries Receiving Compensation in Case of Death of Serviceman or Being Declared Missing
1 / 10

At January 11 sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security, the draft law on Making Addenda to the Law on Compensation of Damages Caused to Servicemen’s Life or Health During the Defense of the Republic of Armenia authored by the deputy from the Civil Contract Faction Hayk Sargsyan was debated in the first reading.

It is proposed to include the serviceman’s sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, as well as a person who is married to the serviceman, but they are not officially registered in the list of beneficiaries receiving compensation in case of the death of a serviceman or being declared missing, if the serviceman does not have a spouse, child or parent.

Speaking about the importance of the implementation of addenda, the author has stated that at this moment, there are 16 cases where the beneficiaries of the soldier’s husband, child or parent are absent and that is why the reimbursement of the Servicemen’s insurance fund is not carried out for those soldiers. “In all cases we know, the fallen soldiers have sisters and brothers,” Hayk Sargsyan added.

The co-rapporteur, the deputy Gurgen Melkonyan, considering the addenda proposed by the draft up-to-date, urged to vote for.

The RA Deputy Minister of Defense Arman Sargsyan has noted that the RA Government does not have principal objections related to the initiative. It will be completely acceptable in case of implementation of the proposals submitted by the executive body, about which there is a preliminary agreement, the rapporteur has underlined. The Government especially proposes to recognize a person who is married to the serviceman, but they are not officially registered as a beneficiary, only if that person and the serviceman have a joint child and also to recognize the soldier’s brother or sister as a beneficiary, only if any other beneficiary has not previously received money for the serviceman.

The Committee endorsed the draft revised on the basis of the proposals of the Government.
