More Than 600 Trees Planted on the Territory of the Closed Mine

The community tree planting-deforestation program in Armavir Marz was launched in summer of 2019. At that time with the support of Serj Tankian the MPs Narek Mkrtchyan and Varazdat Karapetyan met with the Armenian Tree Project (ATP) Executive Director Jeanmarie Papelian and the Program Coordinator Arthur Harutyunyan.

The territory designed for tree-planting is on the border of Parakar-Merdzavan communities, which before belonged to the sand mine being under the auspice of Sahakyanshin Company

As a result of negotiations with the Company directorate more than 8000 square metres were returned to Merdzavan Community for creating a planting rest zone.

Due to efforts of several months the program was implemented. On November 16, with the participation of numerous MPs, community residents, the Municipality, the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Mayors tree-planting was carried out in Parakar, More than 6000 trees were planted on the territory of the closed mine, which would promote to free the village from dust and having park and clean air for children.
