Bagrat Sargsyan was born on February 10, 1959 in the village of Deghtzut in Ararat region.

1974-1975 he was a worker at Artashat water-sewerage department.

In 1980 he graduated from the faculty of History at Yerevan State University. He is a historian, teacher of history and social science.

He was involved in active social works in his student years. He taught at school Young Historian of Yerevan State University.

1980-1981 he worked at the secondary school in the village of Kanachut of Artashat region as a teacher of History. Later he was elected deputy chairman of the department of the collective farm of the village of Deghdzut. 1985-1987 he worked as an instructor in the Artashat Regional Committee of the Armenian Leninist Komsomol Youth Union. In 1987 he was elected chairman of the department of the collective farm of the village of Deghdzut, where he worked till the dissolution of the collective farm. 1990-1991 he was appointed responsible secretary of the organization of the Armenian Script. In 1991 he was elected Chairman of Deghzut Rural Council. 1996-1999 he was head of Deghdzut village. In 2000 he worked in the RA Ministry of Social Security as head of Humanitarian Aid Division. In the same year by the decision of RA Prime Minister he was appointed Secretary of Ararat Regional Municipality, in 2002 – Deputy Head of Governor. 2004-2005 - Deputy Minister Coordinating RA Territorial Administration and Infrastructures. 2005-2008 – RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration.

He was awarded letter of acknowledgement of RA Prime Minister and Nansen Gold Medal.

On June 6, 2008 he was elected a deputy of the National Assembly by the proportional electoral system from the ARF Party.

He is married and has three children.
