Born July 1, 1962 in the city of Shushi in Artsakh Republic.

1979 - Entered the Baku Higher Joint Command School.

1983 - Served in a group of Soviet Forces in Germany. Commander of a Motor-Rifle platoon, and then a Commander of a Motor-Rifle company of the Armed Forces of the USSR.

1988 - Transferred to the Transcaucasus Military District and was appointed Motor-Rifle Company Commander of the 366th Motor-Rifle Regiment based in Stepanakert; Deputy Battalion Commander, Commander.

Since 1992 -  Continued the service in the Defense Army of the Artsakh Republic. He took part in hostilities on all fronts.

December 1992 - Appointed Chief of Staff of the NKR Self-Defense Committee.

1994 - 1998 - First Deputy Commander of the Defense Army.

Since October 1998 - Commander of the 5th Army Corps.

1999 - 2000 - Minister of Defense of the Republic of Artsakh.

2000 - 2007 - Minister of Defense - Commander of the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh.

2007- 2008 - Chief of the General Staff - First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

2008 - 2016 - Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia.

1995 - Awarded the military rank of Major General.

2000 - Lieutenant General.

2007 - Colonel General. Candidate of Political Science.

June 20, 2021 - Elected Member of the National Assembly from the national electoral list of the “Armenia” alliance of parties.

1999 - Awarded the highest title “Hero of Artsakh” and the “Golden Eagle” Order.

Awarded the Medals of “70 years of the Armed Forces of the USSR,” “For Impeccable Service,” “For Excellent Service” first grade, “For the Liberation of Shushi,” “For Services Contributed to the Motherland” first-grade, the Orders of “Battle Cross” first grade (Republic of Artsakh), “Battle Cross” first grade (RA), “Tigran the Great,” Departmental Medals of “For Impeccable Service” 1 and 2 grades, “Drastamat Kanayan,” “Marshal Baghramyan,” “For Strengthening Cooperation,” “Maternal Gratitude,” “Marshal of the Soviet Union Zhukov” and a Commemorative Medal “Coat of arms.”
