On December 12 the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan took part in the International Conference titled “Policy of Neutrality: International cooperation for peace, security and development,” where delegations led by the Presidents, heads of the legislative and executive power, high ranking officials of more than 80 states, representatives of about three dozens of international organizations attended.
On the same day the RA NA Speaker had a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkmenistan Akja Nurberdiýewa. At the meeting the RA NA Speaker, congratulating his colleague on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, noted in particular, “The Resolution on the status of the Permanent Neutrality adopted at the 50th jubilee session of the UN General Assembly approved the fundamental principle of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, which found its reflection also in the social-economic life.”
Thanking the RA NA Speaker for personally taking part in the conference, Mrs Nurberdiýewa talked about the relations historically formed between the two peoples, which are based on mutual respect, mutual support and rich traditions, and which are considered to be a firm backbone in the Armenian-Turkmen inter-state relations.
The RA NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan has stated that the expansion of the practical cooperation going on between Armenia and Turkmenistan opens new opportunities for both sides. Speaking about the parliamentary cooperation of the two countries, the Speaker of the National Assembly has noticed that due to joint efforts the agenda of the relations has become possible to be more inclusive, having different spheres of cooperation.
In this context, the issue of the enlivening of the inter-parliamentary relations, as well as more frequent meetings of the Friendship Groups functioning in the parliaments was highlighted.
At the meeting the President of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan invited his colleague to Armenia.
