On December 12 the delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan, which was comprised of the NA deputies Gagik Minasyan, Gagik Gevorgyan, Ruben Gevorgyan and Armen Martirosyan, arrived in Stepanakert.
On the same day the delegation headed by the NA Speaker Samvel Nikoyan met with Ashot Ghulyan, NA Speaker of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. Artur Tovmasyan, NKR NA Deputy Speaker, Vahram Atanesyan, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations and Karen Topchyan, NKR NA representative to the RA NA, also attended the meeting.
The speakers of the parliaments of the two Armenian republics highly appreciated the level of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, expressed conviction that those relations would continuously be more activated and the works of the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, Standing Committees will develop more efficiently, the joint debates of the expert groups will be more frequent in order to improve the legislative field.
The NA Speaker Samvel Nikoyan expressed willingness to take part and support any discussions promoting the development of inter-parliamentary relations, which would be constructive and effective. In this context he not only considered possible, but also highlighted the participation of the NKR National Assembly deputies in the working discussions concerning the Nagorno Karabakh issue and parliamentary diplomacy of the RA National Assembly. According to the NA Speaker, that dimension will be outlined and will become feasible in the near future by devising relevant mechanisms.
The delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly also met with the heads of the NKR NA factions, Committee chairmen and deputies.
During the meeting the Speaker of the RA National Assembly has recorded that the two parliaments encounter numerous problems starting from the improvement of the legislative field up to the numerous things pertaining to the parliamentary diplomacy, which shall be solved through joint efforts. With this respect any action, proposal or programme, which can be efficient for the development of the two republics, shall be handled.
In the course of the meeting issues related to the creation of cooperation mechanism in the sphere of improvement of legislative field, further doings in the Committee on Inter-parliamentary Cooperation and further development of the inter-parliamentary relations in general, were considered.
On the same day the delegation headed by the Speaker of the RA National Assembly also met with the NKR President Bako Sahakyan.
The NKR President welcomed the RA NA delegation, congratulated Samvel Nikoyan on the occasion of being elected Speaker of the RA National Assembly and expressed satisfaction for the first visit to the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh.
According to the NA Speaker’s assessment this kind of position of his is aimed at future and has a goal to make inter-parliamentary cooperation far more effective.
Issues pertaining to all-national matters, parliamentary and economic cooperation were considered during the meeting.
The NKR President introduced success documented in various economic areas of NKR, the existing problems and methods of their resolution.
