On April 7, within the framework of the 140th Session works of the Inter-Parliamentary Union the President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan met with the Secretary General Martin Chungong.
Ararat Mirzoyan presented to the Secretary General the results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections held in Armenia and the high assessment given by the international observers. The President of the Parliament has noted that Armenia has been a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union since 1995 and expressed confidence that the deputies of the National Assembly of the new convocation will be more actively involved in the works of the organization.
Secretary General Martin Chungong has congratulated Ararat Mirzoyan on being elected President of the Parliament and has opined that the presence of Armenia’s parliamentarians in the Inter-Parliamentary Union supports the development process of democracy in the world.
The sides discussed the format of the issues of deepening of cooperation and of bilateral interest and agreed to organize a workshop dedicated to the women’s political participation in Yerevan under the aegis of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the near future.
At the meeting the Head of the legislative body handed to the Secretary General of the Union the letter expressing readiness for observing The Common Principles for Support to Parliaments worked out by the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
