The President of the RA National Assembly Alen Simonyan gave an exclusive interview to the Russian leading Russian Business Consulting (RBC) TV Company within the framework of the official visit to the RF.

During the extensive talk with Ilya Doronov, Alen Simonyan referred to the allied nature of the Armenian-Russian relations, the agreements reached during the meetings with the high-ranking RF officials, spoke about the steps aimed at establishing peace in the region and the ways of overcoming the 44-day war. The Head of Parliament has underlined that the Armenian side is not for the strategic solutions, the issues should be peacefully solved.

“It is very important that the first foreign visit has taken place to a country that is the ally of the Republic of Armenia, it has been very important for me personally to come to Moscow first. I think that the visit is completely succeeded,” Alen Simonyan said, adding that during the meeting, he proposed to give concrete solutions to problems. An agreement was reached to discuss the positions on the international platforms to some extent in advance.

During the talk with the NA President, the author of the programme was interested in whether he was interested in overcoming the consequences of the war in our country.

“It is hard to get over when we are informed about prisoners of war every day, when the family members wait for their children, brothers and spouses. It is very difficult when Turkey and Azerbaijan hold military exercises at a distance of literally few kilometers every month,” the Head of Parliament of Armenia underlined.

Referring to the regional problems and the possible contacts with Azerbaijan, the NA President stated: “It is extremely difficult to imagine the peaceful coexistence of the two peoples in a situation when, for example, so-called “strategic parks” are built in Baku, mannequins of burning or killed Armenian soldiers are showed.”

Ideas were exchanged on November 9 statement and on the events of the period following it. The NA President spoke about the destructive position of Azerbaijan, the immediate return of Armenian prisoners of war being kept in that country, captured and missing persons.

“The soldiers of Azerbaijan are in the territory of Armenia. We have offered to withdraw until we will clarify the borderlines by delimitation, however the Azerbaijani side has not done it yet. These are most important issues along with the return of the captives,” Alen Simonyan said.

The post-war Armenia and the snap parliamentary elections aimed at solving political crisis were touched upon.
